This project is near and dear to our hearts. We were once the underprivileged cheerleaders. As such our coaches are dedicated to the growth and development of our young stars.

Flamez Elite is more than just a cheer program—we are a family built on passion, dedication, and growth. Our mission is to develop well-rounded athletes by emphasizing fundamentals, flexibility, strength, and creativity in every aspect of training.

Our focus is on perfecting technique, building confidence/discipline, and instilling a strong foundation that will prepare our athletes for long-term success. We believe that mastering the basics leads to advanced skills, and our program is designed to nurture both new and experienced athletes in a supportive and challenging environment.

At Flamez Elite, we don’t just train cheerleaders—we empower young athletes to push past their limits, work as a team, and embrace the spirit of competition with integrity and sportsmanship. Whether your child is just starting their cheer journey or looking to take their skills to the next level, we are committed to helping them grow, thrive, and shine—both on and off the mat.

Join us as we continue to build a legacy of excellence—one routine, one stunt, and one athlete at a time.

The Founders

Jean  Mccurdie

Coach Jean

Jean’s love for cheer began in 2007 at School 13, where her passion and dedication quickly earned her the role of captain. She continued to shine at Eastside High and later at JFK, where, as only a sophomore, she was named captain—a testament to her leadership and drive.

With dreams of cheering at Morgan State University, Jean poured her heart into training, but when tryouts came, she faced an unexpected setback—she didn’t meet the tumbling requirements. Though disappointed, she refused to let this define her. Instead, she turned that moment into motivation, pursuing a career in coaching and law enforcement.

Jean’s coaching journey started at School 13, where challenges were plenty—no uniforms, no proper equipment, and limited space. But she and her co-coach, Tanisha, made it work, even holding practices at home. Their perseverance paid off, leading their team to a 2nd place win at the Taub Doby Cheer Competition, followed by a 3rd place finish the next year.

Recognized for her dedication, Jean was invited to coach at Dr. Hani, where she made history—securing back-to-back 1st place victories and becoming the youngest, most accomplished coach in the league. Her journey is a testament to resilience, passion, and the belief that with hard work, no dream is out of reach.

Alexandria Obong

Coach P

Alex’s cheer journey began later than most, starting as a sophomore at Eastside High. While many had years of experience ahead of her, she refused to let that hold her back. Instead, she used it as motivation—working harder, putting her team first, and embracing every challenge with determination.

Her dream was to cheer for a Historically Black College or University, inspired by the Winston-Salem cheerleaders. But when she realized she wasn’t quite ready for that level, she initially blamed her late start. It wasn’t until she became a coach that she understood—it’s never too late to grow, learn, and improve. She filled in the gaps in her own training, then made it her mission to ensure her athletes never stopped learning, always pushing them to reach their full potential.

Alex’s impact was felt immediately. In 2017, her team won 1st place at the Taub Doby Cheer Competition, followed by a 3rd place finish at Blue Tide Invitational in 2018 and 2nd place at Taub Doby in 2019.

For Alex, cheer is more than just a sport—it’s about passion, perseverance, and creating opportunities for the next generation of athletes to thrive.

A dear friend and source of loving inspiration, Nygeir Q. Barrett taken from us too soon helped shape Flamez Elite by being the backbone and motivational support to founder Jean McCurdie. It was he who pushed her as a childhood friend to never give up and to “Keep Winning.”
